Law enforcement officials are searching for a low-risk sex offender who is wanted on a Morton County warrant.
Daniel Red Horn, 26, left his dorm room at United Tribes Technical College two weeks ago, and he has not been at class since, Burleigh County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Stoltz said. He said Red Horn has not been at his job since Sept. 3.
Red Horn has been charged in Burleigh County with failure to register as a sexual offender, a Class C felony, for allegedly failing to inform authorities of his present address. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Stoltz said the Morton County Sheriff's Department contacted the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department because Red Horn, who is wanted on a warrant out of Morton County, was supposed to be living at 3315 University Drive, Sitting Bull Dorm No.18.
Stoltz said Burleigh County deputies discovered that Red Horn no longer lives on campus, and they have been unable to locate him.
Red Horn was convicted in 2005 of menacing and sexual assault, Stoltz said. According to court documents, Red Horn originally had been charged with felonious restraint and gross sexual imposition in the case, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charges.
Red Horn is wanted in Morton County for alleged probation violations in a simple assault-domestic violence case from earlier this year. Apetition to revoke his probation in that case was filed earlier this month. He also has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender in Morton County, and he is slated to stand trial for that charge on Oct. 26.
Red Horn is considered a low-risk sex offender and is required to register with law enforcement until 2020.
Anyone with information about Red Horn's whereabouts should call the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department at 222-6651, Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477) or a local law enforcement agency.
