An Illinois man faces three felony charges after allegedly driving off in a woman's vehicle as she dried it outside a car wash.

Jason Bedenkop, 29, was charged Monday with Class Bfelony robbery and two counts of Class C felony theft of property.

South Central District Judge Robert Wefald set bond at $50,000 for Bedenkop, of Chicago.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Dwight Offerman said a 48-year-old Bismarck woman reported at 5:10 p.m. Sunday that her car had been stolen as she was drying it off. She said she tried to grab the keys from the ignition as a man drove off in it, but she was unsuccessful and was dragged for a short distance.

Offerman said the woman was not injured.

Officers located the car at another gas station minutes later and arrested Bedenkop.

Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Cynthia Feland said Bedenkop has a long criminal history out of Illinois.

Bedenkop said he came to Bismarck to participate in Teen Challenge. Teen Challenge is a faith-based program to address addiction problems.
