Mitch Vance, a Bismarck writer and photographer who's active in Democratic politics, said Saturday he's considering a run for state treasurer.

Vance said he'll be making a decision soon, but declined to put a timeline on when soon will be. He said he'll be discussing the decision with his family and thinking about a platform to run on as part of his decision making process.

"I'm favorably inclined to run," he said.

Vance's comments came at Bismarck's district conventions.

State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt, a Republican who was elected in 2004, announced in January that she'd be standing for re-election.

The North Dakota Treasurer's Office manages the flow of state finances, investing in certificates of deposit and making sure liquidity is available to state agencies when money needs to be spent.
