Linton - The North Dakota State University extension service will hold drought meetings at 7 p.m. today in the Zeeland City Hall and at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmons County Courthouse auditorium in Linton. Producers can learn about forage, economics, nutrition and range issues during droughts.

GOLDEN VALLEY

Golva - A lengthy road improvement on Highway 16 between Beach and Golva is complete and motorists can expect unimpeded travel now. The $1.3 million overlay is the finishing part of a pavement project done back in 2003. Before then, the road was last improved in 1979.

Carson - People with a taste for good chili are needed for the 10th annual chili cook-off to be held in conjunction with the Grant County Fair in Carson at 4 p.m. Aug. 18. Anyone who wants to sample chili and vote for his or her favorite is welcome. For information, call Gloria Payne at 522-3432.

Tappen - A farmers market will be open Saturday at the Tappen baseball field, continuing Saturdays through September. The market is a project of the Tappen Future Farmers of America, who helped plan and survey the opportunity to bring together local produce growers and consumers. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Tappen FFA chapter.

Hazen - Hazen's community pitchfork fondue will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Park in Hazen. Tickets are $10 in advance at Hazen businesses and $15 at the event, for a steak dinner. The dinner is sponsored by the Hazen Chamber of Commerce. Also, the Beulah Park District will hold an open forum at 6:30 p.m. today at the Beulah Eagles Club to talk about long-range plans and expansion at Beulah Bay. Hebron - The public is invited to meet with the Hebron City Council at 6:30 p.m. today at the Hebron City Hall to talk about Morton County's plans to close a stretch of road west of town, past the former Wayside Inn. The Morton County Commission will be at the meeting to get public input on the future of the road.

Lake Oahe - The first annual Sitting Bull Monument Foundation triathlon will be held Aug. 19 at the monument site on Highway 1806 west of Mobridge, S.D.
