County commissioners assign duties

Jim Peluso was voted in as chairman of the Burleigh County Commission on Monday, and Commissioner Mark Armstrong was approved as the board's vice chair.

The commissioners rotate in positions from year to year.

Commissioners also received their portfolio assignments at Monday's meeting.

Commissioner Brian Bitner will focus on social services, zoning and planning, Missouri Valley Complex and county parks, and the Community Action Program.

Commissioner Jerry Woodcox will cover issues of the state's attorney, building and grounds and abandoned cemeteries, veterans services, superintendent of schools, nursing, and Lewis and Clark Regional Development.

Armstrong will cover zoning and planning, the recorder's office, county library, government coordination, Bis/Man Development and the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce.

Commissioner Doug Schonert will have the portfolios of the road and bridge department, the Bismarck/Mandan Metro Planning Organization, the Council on Aging, water management, county extension, weed control and Housing Authority.

Peluso will have the portfolios of law enforcement, emergency management, human resources and county finance.
