Bismarck police are investigating a report that a man pointed a gun at several people who pulled into the wrong parking lot late Friday night.

According to a police report, a 21-year-old Bismarck man and a friend were going to drop off the man's 18-year-old brother at a shop near Dakota Sanitation, which is located at 1700 Channel Drive.

They accidentally pulled into the Dakota Sanitation parking lot at around 11:20 p.m. Friday, according to witness statements. When the 18-year-old got out of the car to walk to the shop he wanted to go to, a man emerged from behind a dumpster with a gun, the statements said.

The man first pointed the gun at the 18 year old, then turned the weapon toward the car, statements said. When the occupants of the car rolled down the window, the man yelled at them for "trespassing on his property," statements said.

They told him they made a wrong turn into the parking lot, and he put his gun in his holster and ordered the 18-year-old to get in the car, statements said.

The man never fired a shot, and no one was injured, the report said.

Bismarck Police Sgt. Steven Kilde said officers have not identified the man and do not know if he has any connection with Dakota Sanitation. A detective has been contacted to investigate the incident, the report said.

The man with the gun is described as a thin white man in his 40s or 50s with grayish hair and about 5 feet 9 inches tall.

The incident was not reported until Saturday afternoon.

Kilde said the people involved did not explain why they had not reported the incident Friday night.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212 or Bismarck Area Crime Stoppers at 224-TIPS (224-8477).
