North Dakota Tax Commissioner Cory Fong says the tax-filing season that ended Oct. 15 was heavy, and many state residents obtained extensions.
More than 337,000 tax returns were processed, an increase of 13,000 from last year.
Fong says there were 215,000 refunds, an 18 percent increase.
The average refund this year was $293. Last year's average refund was $223.
Fong says a lot of North Dakotans took advantage of the property-tax credit.
About 60 percent of state tax returns were filed electronically this year.
