A Bismarck woman could face at least two years in prison for allegedly injuring a man with a knife.

Madonna Mcleod, 38, has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly using a knife to injure a man she lives with. Since it is alleged that she used a weapon in the assault, the charge carries a mandatory two-year prison sentence upon conviction.

South Central District Court Judge Thomas Schneider set Mcleod's bond at $5,000 cash or surety. He also added as a condition of bond that she have no contact with the alleged victim upon release.

Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Justin Schwartz requested that bond be $5,000. He said that Mcleod does not have a significant criminal history, but he believed the charge warranted a cash-only bond.

Mcleod said she would not be able to come up with the cash-only bond, so Schneider gave her the option of obtaining a bail bond.

Sgt. Mark Buschena of the Bismarck Police Department said officers were first called to a mobile home in the park at 700 S. 12th St. at 7:27 p.m. Mcleod had called 911 and told responding officers that she and the 40-year-old Bismarck man were having a verbal dispute, Buschena said.

Police were dispatched to the residence again at 8:07 p.m., Buschena said. When they arrived, the man had blood running down his left arm, Buschena said.

Mcleod allegedly injured the man with a yellow-handled knife that officers found behind a couch in the home, Buschena said. He did not know what kind of knife it was or what kind of wound the man had.

It was also unknown what the relationship was between Mcleod and the man.
