While Bismarck's official precipitation for the Wednesday night storm was only .02 inches, nearby areas received much more.
National Weather Service meteorologist Patrick Ayd said .23 inches fell five miles northwest of Bismarck. Farther north, people reported more than an inch of rain, he said. In Mandan, someone reported 2 inches of rain five miles north-northwest of town.
"Most of the storm stayed north," Ayd said.
He said it's not unusual to have varying amounts of precipitation fall during thunderstorms.
The storm blew in high winds, though the weather service received few damage reports from the Bismarck area.
However, four miles northeast of Bismarck, someone reported 50 mph winds damaged the soffits on a home and moved large heavy objects, including a table and a horse wagon more than 100 feet.
