WASHBURN - The McLean County Sheriff's Department is investigating dynamite found in a building on a farm north of Washburn on Monday.

The property owner reported he found several sticks of dynamite stored in a can in one of the buildings on the farm.

The Bismarck and Minot bomb squads were called to the scene. Bismarck Police Department Lt. Dan Donlin said the squads removed the can and took it to a ditch north of the farm, where they counter-charged, or detonated, it.

He said they also advised the landowner to look around the rest of the property for other explosives. He did and found a glass jar containing three electric blasting caps, which are used to detonate explosives. The bomb squads also counter-charged the caps.

No other explosives have been found on the farm, but the investigation is continuing.
