The North Dakota Railroad Hall of Fame will have two new members as of Aug. 23.

George Reichman and Joe Motl have both worked with the railroad for many years and have been advocates for its development.

Reichman has been a supporter of the Railroad Museum since it was first organized in 1985. He was a board member, then secretary to the organization and a key player in the establishment of the Rotary Park at the museum. In more recent years, he has scheduled the volunteers who keep the museum open all summer.

Motl has worked on railroads for all of his career. He started in 1947 as a section laborer in Valley City. In 1952, he became a track inspector for the Northern Pacific Railroad in the area between Mandan and Driscoll. Throughout his work, not a single train ever derailed. He retired in 1982. Motl now lives in Mandan and volunteers at the Railroad Museum.

The Railroad Museum is hosting Railroad Days from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 23. Steam train rides, a hobo banquet and new exhibits will be part of the festivities.

The induction ceremony for Reichman and Motl will be at 4 p.m. during Railroad Days at the museum. The event is open to the public.
