In Sunday's 2004 Voter's Guide on the page for superintendent of public instruction (Page 15) there were errors in some of the answers and one of the questions was omitted.
Errors made it appear that Superintendent of Public Instruction Wayne Sanstead opposes the No Child Left Behind Act. He does not oppose the act.
In fact - "The No Child Left Behind Act has created a schism between some states and the federal government. North Dakotans have always felt the state provided a good-quality education for its young people, yet its schools are failing in terms of the federal mandate." - was a statement the candidates were asked to respond to for the Tribune. The statement was incorrectedly attributed to Sanstead as part of his answer to another question.
Keith Jacobson, the other DPI candidate, also was asked to respond to the statement. His answer was included in a response to another question.
All of the questions and correct answers appear on Page 6A of today's Tribune.
