Temperatures dropped to a record 44 below zero at 7:34 a.m. today in Bismarck, according to the National Weather Service.
The previous record for this day was set in 1971 and was only 36 below zero.
A warm front is on the way, though, said meteorologist Rich Leblang with the National Weather Service Bismarck office.
"It should be dramatically warmer here the next couple of days," Leblang said.
That means Friday will bring temps back up into the 20s. And that's above zero.
