Woman killed in two-vehicle collision

An 84-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon when when she drove her car into an intersection in Ward County and was hit by an oncoming pickup, according to the North Dakota State Highway Patrol.

The woman was driving with her 86-year-old husband, who was injured in the accident.

Thomas Weber, 60, of Helena, Mont., was driving the pickup and was uninjured. The victims' names were not released, and the Highway Patrol could not be reached Saturday for comment.

According to the report, the accident happened at 1:10 p.m., when the woman was driving east on U.S. Highway 2 and failed to yield at the intersection of Ward County Road 10. Weber, who was driving north on 10, swerved his Dodge pickup to avoid the oncoming Mercury Grand Marquis, but was unsuccessful in avoiding a collision, the report said.

The Grand Marquis suffered extensive driver's side damage and the Dodge pickup suffered extensive front damage, according to the report.
