Pesticide collection planned

North Dakota's annual collection of unusable pesticides, Project Safe Send, will be conducted at 16 locations in July.

Pesticides include herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and rodenticides.

Containment bags for transporting damaged pesticide containers to a Project Safe Send collection site are available from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture at 800-242-7535.

The collections are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (local time) at the following dates and locations. All collection sites are at North Dakota Department of Transportation maintenance facilities.

* July 7 Casselton.

* July 8 Hillsboro.

* July 9 Grand Forks.

* July 10 Drayton.

* July 13 Devils Lake.

* July 14 Valley City and Bottineau.

* July 15 Edgeley and Minot.

* July 16 Wyndmere and Williston.

* July 17 Dickinson.

* July 20 Beulah.

* July 21 Flasher.

* July 22 McClusky.

* July 23 Napoleon.

Project Safe Send is funded by fees pesticide manufacturers pay to register their products in North Dakota. Since 1992, more than 2.3 million pounds of pesticides have been collected and shipped out of state to be destroyed.
