Three people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries after a wreck that propelled a 91-year-old woman's car into an apartment building.
Lt. Randy Ziegler said Winnie Woodmansee, 91, was northbound on North 12th Street in a Chevy Lumina and was trying to make a left turn onto Broadway Avenue at 11:32 a.m. After stopping at the stop sign, she proceeded into the intersection.
James MacArthur, 53, was driving a Chevy Blazer, which belongs to the state, west on Broadway, Ziegler said. He said MacArthur told officers he didn't see Woodmansee until it was too late. Woodmansee said she didn't see MacArthur after stopping at the stop sign, Ziegler said.
MacArthur's Blazer struck the front passenger side of Woodmansee's Lumina, and the Lumina was pushed into the apartment building at 212 N. 12th St. by the impact. The car struck a patio door on the building and entered into a commons area, Ziegler said. No one inside was hurt.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. The report did not say how much damage was caused to the apartment building.
MacArthur was taken to St. Alexius for minor injuries, and Woodmansee was taken to Medcenter One, Ziegler said. He said he did not know the extent of either of their injuries. A passenger in the Blazer, 58-year-old Merlyn Skaley of Bismarck, was treated and released, Ziegler said.
The report will be forwarded to the city attorney for a citation of failure to yield after a stop sign against Woodmansee, Ziegler said.
