Garden expo planned in Mandan

The Dakota Garden Expo will be held at the Mandan Middle School on April 25.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the program will begin at 9 a.m.

Starting the day off will be Sara Williams, author and speaker on landscaping in the Northern Great Plains. She will be presenting three talks: "Creating the Prairie Xeriscape" Part 1 and Part 2, and "Gardening in the Shade." Before retirement, she was the horticultural specialist with the extension division, University of Saskatchewan.

n "Basics of Tree Pruning," Joe Zeleznik, North Dakota State University Extension forester.

n "Blooms of North Dakota," Mike and Marla Rose, Ward County.

n "Composting," Sue Leibig, NRCS, Bismarck.

n "Country Winemaking Basics," Steve Sagaser, Grand Forks County Extension horticulturist

n "Impressive Annuals for the North," Barb Laschkewitsch, NDSU plant science department.

n "Taking Photos of Flowers," Brian Matthews, professional photographer, Mandan.

n "Herbs from Garden to Table," Jackie Buckley, Morton County Extension agent.

n "Iris: The Common Man's Orchid," Gene Gunhus, Pekin Iris Patch.

n "New and Underused Perennials," Julie Schroer and Jodie Ramsay, Perham, Minn.

n "Ornamental Grasses," Alan Zuk, NDSU plant science department.

n "Recent NDSU Tree Introductions for the North," Dale Herman, plant science department.

n "Structural Pruning of Young Trees," Joe Zeleznik, NDSU Extension forester.

n "Inspiration from the East: Gardening with Families in Asia and Africa," Tom Kalb.

n "Tree Recommendations for Western North Dakota," Dale Herman, NDSU plant science department.

A pre-registration fee of $25 for the Dakota Garden Expo is due April 21. Late registrations and onsite registrations for the event are $30.

Registration can be made online by going to www.dakotagardener. com. Pre-registration forms are available at the Morton and Burleigh Extension offices. The registration fee covers a noon lunch and all breaks.
