Republican John Hoeven wants more than eight years as North Dakota's governor. Democrat Tim Mathern is his opponent and both are seeking your vote in November.
The two will square off in a debate on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Tom Baker Room, City-County Building, 221 N 5th St., Bismarck, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Here's your chance to have your question for the candidates considered. If you have a specific question, applicable to both candidates, send it to john.irby@;bismarcktribune.com no later than Friday, Sept. 5. The best submissions will be considered as questions for the candidates. Question format should be something like this: "If elected governor, what would you do about ___________."
The debate is sponsored by the Bismarck Tribune, League of Women Voters, Community Access Television and the North Dakota Newspaper Association.
CATV will broadcast the debate live and rebroadcast it several times leading up to the election. Rebroadcast will also be provided to Fargo, Grand Forks, Jamestown and Minot. Those without cable can watch a live Web stream at www.freetv.org
Panelists asking questions at the debate will include Gail H. Erickson, president, League of Women Voters; Brian Duggan, state government reporter, Bismarck Tribune; Jason Nordmark, NDNA president, Turtle Mountain Star, Rolla; and another NDNA representative.
The audience will be limited to the first 100 people. Audience members will also be allowed to submit questions for consideration.
Hoeven and Mathern will be allowed a five-minute introduction and will answer and rebut questions (two minutes each) posed from the panelists. They will also be allowed a four-minute closing statement.
