A strong band of thunderstorms swept through west central North Dakota on Sunday night, dropping sheets of rain on most of the region and golfball-size hail in a few spots.

The series of storms began in the early evening with the intense portions passing through between 9 and 10 p.m.

At 9:21 p.m., the National Weather service received reports of golfball-size hail in Mandan. Later, at 9:36 p.m., it received reports of golfball-size hail near Carson in Grant County.

The weather service issued tornado warnings for Morton and Grant counties, and a thunderstorm warning for Burleigh County.

As of 10 p.m., when the warnings expired, no tornados had been reported, said Kevin Birk of the weather service.

Also as of 10 p.m., authorities in Burleigh and Morton Counties had received no reports of fires or serious storm-related crashes.

Today's weather service forecast calls for a 20 pecent chance of rain before 1 p.m. with a high temperature near 89.
