Two men are in custody following a reported shooting Wednesday night in rural Morton County.
The alleged victim, who reported the shooting, was not injured.
The suspects, both in their mid-20s, likely will be charged in connection with the case this afternoon, Morton County State's Attorney Allen Koppy said.
The case was still under investigation Thursday, Koppy said, and law enforcement released little about it. According to information provided by Koppy's office, the suspects were acquainted with the victim. They were apprehended shortly after the shooting was reported. The victim also was listed as a male in his mid-20s.
According to a Bismarck Police Department report, one of the suspects - a 27-year-old male - was arrested at 11:42 p.m. Wednesday at the Budget Inn Express. A woman staying in the same room also was arrested. Brandie Smith, 20, was charged Thursday with possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and contributing to the deprivation of a minor. According to the Burleigh County State's Attorney's office, Smith's 18-month-old son was in the room and had access to the drug paraphernalia.
Regarding the shooting, authorities stressed Thursday that the public was in no danger when it happened, nor is there any present threat.
