A Bismarck man faces four charges related to resisting arrest after a domestic dispute.
Shawn Traversie, 23, was charged Thursday with Class C felony assault on a peace officer and Class A misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief, unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest.
South Central District Judge Robert Wefald set bond for Traversie at $2,500 cash or surety. Traversie is prohibited from having contact with his girlfriend and Bismarck Police Officer Les Schumacher. He is not allowed to leave North Dakota or use alcohol, and he needs written permission to stay at a local address.
Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler were called to a south Bismarck home twice Wednesday night for domestic disturbances. The first time, no one answered the door when officers knocked. The second time, at 9:24 p.m., a 20-year-old Bismarck woman was standing outside the home when officers arrived.
The woman told officers Traversie had prevented her from leaving the home twice, Ziegler said. He said officers knocked on the door for several minutes before the door opened.
Officers made repeated commands for Traversie to take his hands out of his pockets after he opened the door, Ziegler said. He said officers attempted to detain Traversie and he became resistant, kicking Schumacher in the knee.
Ziegler said Traversie also is accused of kicking a squad car, causing a dent. In court Thursday afternoon, Wefald said damages to the squad car were estimated at around $700.
Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Julie Lawyer said Traversie does not appear to have a criminal history. She said he was once arrested on similar charges in South Dakota but the charges were dismissed.
