Preparations for Custer Christmas under way

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is preparing for the 14th annual Custer Christmas to be held on Calvary Square, Dec. 13-14.

As part of the holiday preparations, interpreters are conducting presentations in fourth-grade classrooms throughout Bismarck and Mandan schools. Mark Kenneweg, interpretive director and Kandi Mossett, interpretive events coordinator are teaming up to present the history of Christmas traditions and how the holiday would have been celebrated at Fort Abraham Lincoln in 1875.

The program is an interactive presentation that ends with the students making an ornament that will be used to decorate the Custer House and the Commissary during the Custer Christmas event. The following is the elementary school presentations schedule:

Nov. 24, 9 a.m.-noon, Solheim; 1:50-2:50 p.m., St. Anne's.

Nov. 25, 9 a.m.-noon, Dorothy Moses; 1:10-3:25 p.m., Roosevelt (Mandan).

Nov. 26, 9-10 a.m., Roosevelt (Bismarck); 10:45-11:45 a.m., Apple Creek.

Dec. 1, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Cathedral; 2-3 p.m., Christ the King.

Dec. 2, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Fort Lincoln.

Dec. 3, 9-10 a.m., Shiloh; 12:45-3:05 p.m., Grimsrud.

Dec. 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Robert Miller.

Dec. 8, 9-10 a.m., Martin Luther; 2-3 p.m., St. Mary's.

Dec. 9, 12:30-3 p.m., Will-Moore.

Dec. 10, 9:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Rita Murphy.

Dec. 11, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Centennial; 12:45-1:45 p.m., Riverside.
