Lorie Line coming to Minot, Bismarck
MINNEAPOLIS - Tickets are on sale for the annual Lorie Line holiday tour. This year she celebrates 20 years of touring. The theme is "An Intimate Christmas With Lorie Line" and she promises simplicity and elegance. Bringing just five of her favorite musicians, or her "Fab Five" as she calls them, Line is returning to her roots, featuring a show with more piano playing.
Line will perform at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at Minot State University and at 7:20 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23 at the Belle Mehus Auditorium in Bismarck.
Tickets are on sale now at the Bismarck Civic Center, starting at $42.
Fiddle contest set for February
The Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors' Mansion will be holding the third annual Governor Arthur A. Link Fiddle Contest on Feb. 14, 2010. Violin students from throughout North Dakota can participate in the event, which honors former Gov. Arthur A. Link, who served as the state's 27th chief executive from 1973 to 1981.
Link is an accomplished fiddle player, and along with his wife, Grace, has supported the Former Governors' Mansion for more than 30 years.
There are two contest divisions: Junior, which covers grades one through six; and Senior, which covers grades seven through 12.
All contestants will receive a certificate signed by the former governor and Mrs. Link. Cash scholarships will be provided to the persons chosen for recognition: $350 for first place, $250 for second place, and $150 for third place in the Senior Division; $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place in the Junior Division.
Entry forms can be found at www.history.nd.gov. In addition to the entry form, a $20 entry fee is required along with a letter of recommendation from an instructor, teacher or character witness. 'Superstar' tickets go on sale Oct. 19
"Jesus Christ Superstar" is coming to the Bismarck Civic Center at 8 p.m. Dec. 26 for one performance.
Starting at $27, tickets go on sale Oct. 19 at the Bismarck Civic Center box office, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000. Additional discounts are available for subscribers and groups of 20 or more by calling 701-355-1384.
The show is part of the Broadway in Bismarck 2009-10 season.
Elvis act coming to Belle Mehus
Mental Health America of North Dakota will present Mike Russell's Elvis Tribute Act in one performance.
The concert will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Belle Mehus Auditorium.
Tickets are available at all Bismarck and Mandan Dan's Super Markets or at the door.
Tickets are $5 for 18 and under; $10 for adults; and $30 for a group pass of five.

Center hosting product showcase
WILLISTON - The Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center near Williston will hold its first North Dakota Made Products Showcase from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT Oct. 10 at the Confluence Center. The event will feature several Pride of Dakota members as well as local entrepreneurs.
The product will be followed by refreshments. The evening will conclude with a campfire and special historical presentation by the Buffalo Hunter Vic Smith, as portrayed by local historian and actor Arch Ellwein.
Fiddling poet to perform at DSU
DICKINSON - The Dickinson State University Heart River Writers' Circle will present fiddling poet Ken Waldman at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Beck Auditorium, Klinefelter Hall.
A book signing and reception will follow this performance which is free of charge and open to the public.
DSU to host guest faculty voice recital
DICKINSON - Dickinson State University will host baritone Robert Jones who will perform a guest faculty voice recital titled "Death, Roses and Don Quixote" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall, May Hall. He will be accompanied on piano by Andrew Froehlich. The recital is free of charge and open to the public.
Jones, an associate professor of voice at North Dakota State University, has appeared as soloist with varied ensembles.
Campus Read under way at BSC
The fall Campus Read is under way at Bismarck State College with students, faculty and staff reading "The Complete Persepolis," a graphic novel about a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution. Author and illustrator Marjane Satrapi introduces readers to political, historical and cultural change through the eyes of a child in this memoir of awakening maturity.
Public events begin Tuesday with speakers sharing their personal, political and religious perspectives on Iran and the Middle East. Presentations are noon to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Prairie Room.
On Oct. 8, students, faculty and staff participate in an Iran-A-Read-A-Thon from noon to 1 p.m. in the BSC Library.
Free showings of "Persepolis," the animated feature film based on Satrapi's book, are scheduled for 4 and 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Bismarck Grand Theatres. Tickets will be available Oct. 27 from the theater box office on a first-come, first-served basis.
