BSC hosts event for high schools
Vocalists from 11 area high schools will have a college-level music experience Nov. 20-21 during the Bismarck State College 15th annual ChoirFest.
After vocal workshops and rehearsals with guest conductor Rollo Dilworth, high school singers will combine with BSC music students for a concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 21, in Belle Mehus City Auditorium.
Admission is $10 at the door and $5 for students and seniors.
Area schools attending with their choral directors are Bismarck High (Michael Seil), Bismarck Century (Mary Pat Archuleta), Flasher (Ona Bures), Glen Ullin (Lana Meissner), Grant County High School in Elgin (Bonita Roth), Hazen (Sabrina Lee-Podoll), Hebron (Laurie Dahlen), New Salem (Rex Waddingham), Steele-Dawson (Corinne Zenker), Strasburg (Kellie Wikenheiser) and Zeeland (Trudy Fraase-Wolf).
U-Mary steel drum band to perform
The University of Mary Steel Drum Band is tuning up the drums and pans for a Caribbean performance celebrating the sounds of the islands at a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in Arno Gustin Hall on campus.
The concert is titled "An Evening with the University of Mary Steel Drum Band."
Participating in the concert are Nick Brady, Cassie Hadsell, Amber Hoffman, Mike Smith, Andrea Ficek, all of Bismarck; Weston Schick, Erika Tuntland, Obediah Bauer, all of Mandan; Jacquelyn Campbell of Flasher, Shawna Metzger of Williston, Joel Johnson of Dickinson and David Starks of Ryder.
Emter Family to begin concerts
The Emter Family's Christmas concerts will begin Nov. 27 and continue through Dec. 20. Performances are at 7 p.m. Fridays and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The three-generation Emter family now includes seven grandchildren ages4 and under. Their stage appearances include sing-along songs and simple instruments.

Art history discussion planned
The Mandan Art Association is sponsoring an art history discussion-workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at its Gallery at 411 Main St., Mandan. The discussion will be facilitated by Charlene Jones, local art instructor.
Participants will be introduced to the concept of the Medicine Wheel. Using clay, the participants will create a prayer rattler that will contain their prayers to all the directions of the Medine Wheel.
