Kunz awarded

Vicki Kunz, insurance risk manager for MDU Resources Group Inc., was recently awarded the CRM designation after the completion of five courses covering all major areas of the risk management field and passing five comprehensive examinations. The certification was awarded by The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, a national provider of professional insurance and education.

Gauer appointed

Northland Financial announced the appointment of Tim Gauer as account representative at the Bismarck location. Gauer has prior banking experience with a national bank. He is a graduate of the University of Mary with a bachelor's degree in business administration. In his new role, Gauer will be responsible for generating and maintaining retail and business banking relationships while extending credit and deposit products and related services.

Two attend

Scott Wild and Candace Brekke of iNet Technologies recently attended WebBuilder 2.0 in Las Vegas. The conference featured seminars on a wide range of design, production and usability topics focused on taking advantage of the latest innovations in Web site development. INet Technologies is a Web development and online consulting company with offices in Bismarck, Minot and Fargo.

DeRosier hired

Schwartz Family Chiropractic recently hired Dr. Matthew DeRosier, who comes to Mandan with eight years of experience. He graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1999 and practiced in Richfield, Minn., and most recently in Dilworth, Minn.

Seven awarded

The North Dakota USDA Rural Development honored seven employees from across the state with service awards.

They are: Dale Van Eckhout, 30 years, Bismarck; Mark Schaar, 20 years, Minot; Colleen Nosbusch, Bismarck, Mary Kubischta and Dee Dee Revelette, Dickinson, and Paulette Paulson, Devils Lake, 15 years; and Michelle Baumler, five years, Valley City.

Dockter awarded

Claude Dockter, BS, RRT, coordinator of clinical services for Great Plains Rehabilitation Services at St. Alexius Medical Center, has been awarded the 2007 AARC Invacare Award for Excellence in Home Respiratory Care. Dockter was presented with the award during the AARC International Respiratory Congress in Orlando, Fla.

Goldstein certified

Dr. Heidi Goldstein, St. Alexius Medical Center, recently obtained board certification in pediatric rehabilitation. Goldstein is a specialist in physical medicine at the St. Alexius Specialty Clinics. She treats pediatric conditions including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscle disorders, brain injury and a myriad of congenital disorders.

Two promoted

Laurie Mackay, commodity agent at MDU Resources Group Inc., has been promoted to senior commodity agent. The promotion reflects her contributions to the company and her increasing levels of procurement and purchasing responsibility. Mackay started with the company in 2003.

Heidi Berogan, financial analyst III at MDU Resources Group Inc., has been promoted to Sarbanes Oxley Coordinator IV. The promotion reflects her leadership role in Sarbanes Oxley and her contributions to the company. Berogan has worked at MDU Resources since 2002.

Rau elected

The National Agricultural Aviation Association says Brian Rau of Medina has been elected treasurer of NAAA for 2008. Rau is the operator of Medina Flying Service, which he owns with his wife, Ellen. He has been a member of the NAAA since 1986. He also is the NAAA Communications & PR Committee chairman.

Bauer licensed

Sarah Bauer has achieved the estheticians license from the state of North Dakota. She is a graduate of Aveda Institute Minneapolis and is employed with Identity Salon, Bismarck.

Directors appointed

Youth Enrichment Specialties has a newly appointed board of directors:Linda Olsrud, chairperson; Robin Thorstenson, treasurer; Ruth Beachey, secretary; and Kameran Ali, Kathleen Jones and Bernice Swang. Joy Sorenson continues in her role as executive director.

Three hired

Brent Kovash has joined the Applied Engineering team as a design engineer, where he will be providing services to the Bismarck area. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D., where he received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Nic Brunsting also was hired as a design engineer. He will be providing services to the Bismarck area. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, where he received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Erinn Reed has joined Widget Works, a division of Applied Engineering, as an office coordinator. She attended the University of Mary, where she received her bachelor of science degree in management.

Mitzel hired

Lifeways Partners in Health announced the hiring of Madonna Mitzel, MS, OTR/L registered occupational therapist, previously employed by St. Alexius Speciality Clinics. Mitzel, who has more than 20 years of OT experience, received her master's degree in OT from the University of Mary and has years of additional training in manual therapy approaches.

Intern selected

Nicolette Borlaug is the new marketing intern in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture.

A native of Washburn, Borlaug is a junior majoring in communications at the University of Mary in Bismarck. She is the daughter of David and Ruth Borlaug of Washburn.

Officers elected

Missouri Basin Toastmasters Club No. 4033 Area 32, Division C, District 78, Region IV elected their new officers for 2007-08:President Kathy Redekopp; VP education, Craig Laub, CTM; VP membership, Anika Schaff; VP public relations, Cheri Giesen; secretary-treasurer, Greg Redekopp; and DTM sergeant at arms, Sandy Denis.

Halter joins

Blaine Halter has joined the staff of Houston Engineering Inc. Halter has 18 years of experience in computer-aided design and drafting, and holds an associate of applied science degree in civil/mechanical drafting from the Community College of Denver.

Weigel named

Brian Weigel was named 2007 Employee of the Year at the North Dakota Department of Corrections, Division of Adult Services, annual banquet held in Bismarck. He has a bachelor's degree from Minot State University. Weigel has been employed with the DOCR as a parole-probation officer II since 2002.

Lutze hired

United Blood Services hired Matthew Lutz as a donor recruitment representative. He is responsible for the recruitment and coordination of local and rural blood drives, as well as raising awareness of the importance of blood donation.

Lutz grew up in Bismarck and graduated with a bachelor's degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo. He lives in Bismarck.

Three awarded

Patrick Bitz has earned December's Digital Solutions Specialist of the month for Midwest Business Solutions. He has been employed with Midwest Business Systems for more than one year and has more than 14 years of sales experience.

Carrie Toepke was voted on by her peers as December's Employee of the month. She is the service director at Midwest Business Systems and has been employed with them for more than one year.

Jerome Jaszkowiak has earned December's Service Support Specialist of the month. He has been employed with Midwest Business Systems for 1½ years and has more than 17 years of tech experience.

Monroe awarded

Dave Monroe was nominated and selected as the Bismarck Transition Center's Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2007. Monroe has been employed at BTC for more than five years and is chief of security.

Mihulka awarded

Carol Mihulka, office manager at Fair Housing of the Dakotas, recently achieved the Competent Communicator Award by completing 10 speeches from the Toastmasters International Competent Communicator manual. Mihulka is a member of Centurion Toastmasters Club.
