Basin re-elects three directors

Three Basin Electric directors were re-elected to three-year terms at the cooperative’s recent annual meeting in Bismarck:

* Cliff Gjellstad, Norwich, representing Central Power Electric Cooperative, Minot. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 2000 and a director for Dakota Gasification Co., a Basin subsidiary.

* Kermit Pearson, Lake City, S.D., representing East River Electric Power Cooperative, Madison, S.D. A Basin board member since 1997, he also is a director for Dakota Coal Co., a Basin subsidiary.

* Dean McCabe, Circle, Mont., representing Upper Missouri G&T Electric Cooperative, Sidney, Mont. He’s been a Basin Electric director since 2000, as well as a director for Dakota Coal Co.

Basin Electric’s 11 directors are nominated by representatives of their respective districts and voted on by the full membership at the annual meeting.

Zeller leads state builders group

Ron Zeller of Dickinson has been elected the 2010 president of the North Dakota Association of Builders.

Zeller owns and operates Zeller Construction, and is a past president of the Dickinson Area Builders Association.

Also chosen for positions in the organization are:

* Joel Feist, owner of Real Builders in Minot, first vice president.

* Eddy Mitzel of Mitzel Builders, Mandan, second vice president.

* Ken Krajsa of State Bank and Trust in Fargo, secretary-treasurer.

* Ralph Applegren of Applegren Construction in Grand Forks, state representative.

* Todd Brady of Miller Insulation in Bismarck, associate national director.

* Joe Stenvold of Stax Electric in Minot, alternate BUILD-PAC trustee.

Rick Tofte and John Vastag were named state Builder of the Year and Associate of the Year at the group’s annual meeting.

Tofte is co-owner of Tofte Brothers Construction in Williston, and Vastag is the public relations manager of Laney’s Inc., Fargo.

The Bismarck-Mandan Home Builders Association award-winners, Mike Hopfauf and Nadine Schaff, were among those considered for the state awards.

Hopfauf, local Builder of the Year, owns Hopfauf Custom Builders.

Schaff, Associate of the Year, is employed by American Bank Center.

Accreditation of LSS extended

FARGO — The Council on Accreditation has extended the accreditation of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota for another four years.

Lutheran Social Services received its first accreditation from COA in 1993 and has met the standards of accreditation for the past 16 years. The recent review made special note of the agency’s strong leadership and comprehensive assessments and evaluations.

Annie’s Project continues to grow

Annie’s Project is expanding in North Dakota for the fifth consecutive year.

The six-week program, which helps farm women become better business partners in their farm or ranch operation, will start the week of Jan. 19 at 12 locations across the state: Killdeer, Grand Forks, Towner, Crosby, Kenmare, Lisbon, Bismarck, Mandan, Beach, Mott, McClusky and Valley City.

In the past four years, 800 women have participated in the North Dakota State University Extension Service program, which is delivered by a combination of interactive television and local presenters.

Extra turbines producing power

The Wilton Wind Energy Center recently doubled in size.

Thirty-three additional wind turbines were placed into operation Oct. 31, bringing the total number to 66, and the generating capacity of the wind project to 99 megawatts. On an average annual basis, one megawatt of wind capacity would serve the needs of about 300 residential homes.

The Wilton Wind Energy Center is owned and operated by NextEra Energy Resources, Juno Beach, Fla. The electricity it produces is purchased by Basin Electric Power Cooperative.

Realtors install officers for 2010

Greg Larson, with Century 21 Morrison, was installed as the 2010 president of the Bismarck Mandan Board of Realtors at the association’s recent general membership luncheon.

Also installed were Lynnell Strothman, Bianco Realty, president-elect; Dennis Kaiser, Century 21 Morrison, vice president; and Mary Splichal, Aladdin Realty, immediate past president.

Kerry J. Carpenter, Alliance Real Estate, and Heather Schmidt, Century 21 Morrison, were installed to serve three-year terms on the board of directors. Elected to a one-year seat is Jim Isaak, Bianco Realty; and as NDAR director at large, Doug Schonert, Century 21 Morrison.

Other directors are Kristi Bohl, Amy Hullet and Bob Johnson.

Cardiovascular care recognized

Medcenter One has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters’ annual study examined the performance of 971 hospitals by analyzing clinical outcomes for cardiovascular services in eight key areas.
