Health agency hires
Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health hired three new employees.
Laurie Vanderpan and Betty Schwartz were hired as school nurses for Bismarck public elementary schools and Ashley Baker was hired as an office assistant.
Studies completed
James Devine, owner of J2 Studio Architecture + Design in Bismarck, recently completed coursework required to receive a master's of architecture degree from Montana State University in Bozeman.
A 1993 gradute of the MSU School of Architecture, Devine is a member of AIA and a LEED-accredited professional.
Two attend training
Naomi Friesz, RN, and Wanda Agnew, LRD, employees of Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, attended a weeklong training focusing on worksite wellness.
The class was offered by the University of Minnesota and was facilitated by Dr. Terry Dwelle, North Dakota state health officer, and Melissa Olson, Healthy North Dakota coordinator.
Friesz and Agnew are now certified as Worksite Wellness Trainers.
Pena heads council
Andrea Pena has been named executive director of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities.
She previously worked for the Department of Public Instruction as a program coordinator and data manager, and served as a program compliance manager for federal grants. She also served on the Advisory Council for the North Dakota Disability Health Project.
Pena has a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Northern Colorado.
She replaces Tom Wallner, who retired this summer after 26 years of public service.
Tonneson interns
Joe Tonneson has joined EAPC as a civil/structural engineer intern.
Originally from Glyndon, Minn., Tonneson received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota in May and is pursuing a master of science at UND, where he also will be employed as a research and teaching assistant.
EAPC is a regional consulting firm with offices in Grand Forks, Fargo, Jamestown, Bismarck, Minot, Bemidji, Minn., and Norwich, Vt.
Two hired
Brandon Storm and Richard Schultz have been hired by EAPC.
Storm will work as a senior meteorologist and wind resource analyst. Originally from Thornburg, Iowa, he has a bachelor of science in meteorology from Iowa State and a master of science in meteorology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also has a Ph.D. in wind science and engineering from Texas Tech University.
Schultz is a wind energy technician, working on meteorological tower installs. He previously worked in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on a student information system database program for K-12 schools. Schultz is originally from Alexandria, Minn.
Three honored
Three Midwest Business Systems employees have received recognition from the company.
Lonnie Berg has earned August's digital solutions specialist of the month designation. Berg has worked at Midwest Business Systems for eight months and has more than 19 years of sales experience.
Robin Jundt was chosen by her peers as August's employee of the month. A customer service support specialist, Jundt has been employed with the company for three months.
Ron Emter is August's service support specialist of the month. Employed with Midwest Business Systems for five years, he has more than 28 years of experience.
Two certified
Specialized Cleaning & Restoration Inc. employees Josh Castleberry and Stacey Thomas recently received certifications.
Castleberry completed a water damage restoration technician certification exam from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification.
Thomas received the Council Certified Indoor Environmentalist certification, accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards.
Bankers get award
Kathy Modin and Karen Weikum of American Bank Center and Leon Gross, Wally Erhardt, Connie Barden, John Kramer, Donna Groth, Claudine Galt, Bruce Schumacher, Laurie Pfliger, Alyce Starck, and Donna Frey of the Bank of North Dakota received the Hall of Fame Service award from the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota during the group's 41st annual convention and exposition in August.
Modin, Weikum, Gross, Erhardt, Barden, Kramer, Groth, Galt, Schumacher and Pfliger were recognized for 20 years of service, and Starck and Frey were recognized for 40 years of service in the community banking field.
Schmidt joins clinic
Family nurse practitioner Rhonda Schmidt recently joined Medcenter One Dickinson Clinic.
Schmidt received her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing at the University of Mary, Bismarck.
Martin appointed
Kevin E. Martin has been appointed as a stockholder and principal in Houston Engineering Inc.
He has been with the company's Bismarck office for more than six years.
Martin holds a master of engineering in structural engineering and a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota.
He is the project coordinator for the Northwest Area Water Supply project.
Staff attend
Kranzler Kingsley account executive Darla Miller and Stephanie Schoenrock, director of regional operations, attended the 14th annual Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association Conference and Trade Show last month in Oklahoma City.
This was the first time Kranzler Kingsley, which has a casino gaming division, had a presence at the conference. Miller is based in the agency's Bismarck office and Schoenrock heads the Minot office.
Meyer transfers
Grant Meyer, an Elgin native, has transferred to the Advanced Engineering and Environmental Service Inc. office in Minneapolis, where he will serve as operations manager.
He previously served as operations manager of the Brainerd, Minn., office, as well as manager of AE2S's Financial/Asset Management Group.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and a master of engineering degree in civil engineering with an environmental emphasis from the University of North Dakota.
Patrick with Boden
Joan Patrick has joined Boden Inc. as a business services coordinator.
Boden is a provider of IT services and solutions in North America, Europe and Asia, servicing the private and public sectors.
Patrick will be supporting in the development of the Mandan office.
Agents recognized
Dee Heintz, Tim Herman and Daryl Wahl, American Family Insurance agents in Bismarck, have been recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program.
Heintz has been an agent for American Family since 1990. Her office is located at 1929 N. Washington St., Bismarck, and is staffed with three licensed representatives.
Herman has been an agent for American Family since 1982. His office is located at 1135 S. 12th St., Suite 1, in Bismarck and is staffed with two licensed representatives.
Wahl has been an agent for American Family since 1973. His office at 539 Airport Road is staffed with two licensed representatives.
Kraft earns label
Randy Kraft of Scuba One Travel in Mandan recently earned CSS status in the Sandals/Beaches Resorts' program.
Travel agents with a Certified Sandals Specialist designation have completed an education and training program, along with resort visits.
Kraft also worked at several Jamaican resorts in the 1980s.
Graner hired
Luke Graner was recently hired as creative director at Agency MABU, which is headquartered in Bismarck.
Graner earned a bachelor's degree in art and design from Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
His experience includes developing brand identities, multimedia campaigns and interactive websites.
Agency MABU has affiliated offices in Minot, Fargo, Colorado Springs, Colo., San Diego and Arlington, Va.
Lorenz joins
Jillian Lorenz has joined Hair Concepts, 549 S. Seventh. St.
She has worked in Bismarck as a cosmetologist, and has three years of experience. Her specialties include design cuts, color, eyebrow and leg waxing and pedicures.
