Five certified

Dennis Rodin, Mark Wax, W. Sterling Breuer, Dale Van Eckhout and Matt Burthold of USDA Rural Development have each received certification as an economic development finance professional from the National Development Council.

Certification is given to individuals who complete an economic development finance training series conducted by NDC.

The New York-based National Development Council is a private nonprofit corporation that specializes in economic/housing development training and technical assistance for economic housing development.

Carrick certified

Mary Carrick recently fulfilled requirements to be designated a certified professional, with an emphasis in garden center, by the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association.

From Mandan, Carrick has been employed by Classic Yard in Mandan.

Carrick must earn recertification points every three years to maintain certification.

Bachmeier awarded

Paula Bachmeier has received affiliate of the year honors from the Minot Realtors Association.

Bachmeier is vice president-manager of Minot Guaranty & Escrow Co., which is part of the ND Guaranty & Title Co. family.

Staff attends

Tim Ell and Keith Zhorela, owners of Zorells Jewelry Bismarck, along with their entire staff, recently attended a series of educational seminars, workshops and courses at the Independent Jewelers Organization's fall buying conference in Philadelphia.

Olson joining clinic

After 32 years in independent practice, Dr. Aaron C. Olson, plans to join Mid Dakota Clinic on Sept. 2.

He will continue to see patients at his location at 525 N. Ninth St. and operate his monthly satellite clinics in Garrison, Harvey and Beulah.

Olson received his doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He is board-certified in foot and ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is licensed to practice in North Dakota and South Dakota.

Two doctors join

Drs. Kevin Longie and Kelly Longie will join the family practice department at Mid Dakota Clinic in September.

The Tioga natives graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and recently completed residencies at the UND Center for Family Medicine in Bismarck.

Kevin Longie will see patients at the Kirkwood Mall Clinic, and Kelly Longie will see patients at the Main Clinic at Ninth and Rosser.

MDU directors

MDU Resources Group Inc. has added A. Bart Holaday and Thomas C. Knudson to its board of directors, effective Nov. 1.

"They are widely respected for their expertise in oil and natural gas development, which is one of our core businesses," said MDU Resources Chairman Harry J. Pearce.

In addition to their general board responsibilities, Holaday will serve on the board's audit committee and Knudson will serve on the compensation committee.

Holaday headed the Private Markets Group of UBS Asset Management and its predecessor entities for 15 years prior to his retirement in 2001.

Prior to that, he was involved in the oil and gas industry and service with the federal government.

The North Dakota native lives in Placitas, N.M., and Grand Forks.

Knudson is president of Tom Knudson Interests LLC, which provides consulting services in energy, sustainable development and leadership. He also is the chairman of Bristow Group Inc. and a director of Natco Group Inc.

Knudson retired in 2004 from ConocoPhillips. after a diverse career.

He lives in Houston.

Peterson hired

Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services Inc. has hired Courtney Peterson as an administrative assistant in its Grand Forks office. A Grand Forks native and graduate of Thompson High School, she previously worked for a Grand Forks auto dealership.

Hopfauf

manages

Dwight Hopfauf, a Mandan High School graduate and former Mandan resident, has become general manager of the Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel in St. Louis

Hopfauf has more than 20 years of service within the Marcus Hotels and Resorts chain. He most recently served as general manager with Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Top producer

David Lipsiea of Woodard Financial, a representative of Securian Financial Advisors of ND Inc. in Mayville, is the Securian group's top producer for the month of July.

He has been affiliated with Securian since December.

Yri with

Jiran firm

Jill Yri has joined the staff of Jiran Architects and Planners PC as an architect in training in Bismarck.

Yri, a West Fargo native, graduated in 2005 from North Dakota State University with bachelor's degrees in architecture, psychology and environmental design.

Yri previously worked in Alabama and North Dakota.

Biano hires, honors

Denice Hammer has joined Bianco Realty as a receptionist.

Also, the firm has named Darcy Fettig, Char Huelsman and Teri Scherr its associates of the month for having the most closed sales in July.

Hulm with agency

Thomas Hulm has joined Job Service North Dakota as a program administrator III in the unemployment insurance area in the Bismarck central office.

A Bismarck native, Hulm replaces Mark Butland, who was promoted to associate director of unemployment insurance in April.

Hulm most recently worked as a quality improvement coordinator at the N.D. Department of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response. He has undergraduate degrees in mass communication and business, and a master's degree in counseling. Hulm also has worked in university services, administration and student affairs.

Thurn elected

Carol Thurn, of the North Dakota Department of Transportation, was recently elected chairperson of the National Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators.

Thurn is a program manager in the Drivers License and Traffic Safety Division and has worked for NDDOT since 1988. She is a 2006 University of Mary graduate.

Stroh graduates

Kris Stroh, loan supervisor with Northland Financial in Steele, recently graduated from the Dakota School of Banking sponsored by the North Dakota Bankers Association.

Students are enrolled for two years, attending the school one week each summer.

Stroh has been with Northland Financial since 2002.

Hired, promoted

Animal Kingdom recently hired Kim Helgeson as the pet store manager and promoted Kaitlin Kerzman to pet groomer.

Helgeson has more than eight years of experience in animal health care as an assistant at a veterinary clinic.

Kerzman has been a pet care specialist at Animal Kingdom.

Koppinger hired

Bruce Koppinger has been hired by the Southwest Water Authority as marketing coordinator.

He will work from an office in the SWA operations and maintenance center in Dickinson.

Madler affiliates

Area Realtor Elmer Madler has become affiliated with First Realty, 2600 E. Rosser Ave., Bismarck.

He will continue to handle farm, ranch, residential and commercial properties.

Getzlaff graduates

Sarah Getzlaff has graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado after completing a 25-month senior management and leadership training program for community banking professionals.

Getzlaff is an assistant vice president at Security First Bank of North Dakota, which has offices in Bismarck, Mandan, Center and New Salem.
