Officials from the North Dakota Veterans Home are seeking an additional $13.3 million in state and federal funds to complete its new building in
Mark Johnson, the administrator of the veterans' home, told the Senate Appropriations Committee today that a construction bid completed in October 2008 showed the total cost for the building to be $27 million, up from the original $21 million.
The changes to the building stem from the Veterans Administration in Washington, which urged the North Dakota Veterans Home to adopt a "greenhouse" concept that houses veterans in single rooms.
The appropriation must be passed before March 1 in order to obtain a federal match for the building, Johnson said.
