10 years ago (1999): All those cliches about working hard and keeping your nose to the grindstone until something good eventually happens are true - especially if you are good.

Take Bismarck's Steve Duleh. Looking at his point total - which has been stuck on six for a while - and it'd be easy to think the senior winger wasn't playing well. Wrong.

"Duleh's been a constant," Bismarck coach Jay Johnson said.

All the hard work paid off as Duleh scored two goals in the Demons' 7-3 victory over Mandan.

Also scoring for Bismarck were Dalton Eichele, Mark Erickson, Jason Miller, James Maasen and Wade Mathern. Matt Eslinger, Dilan Hoff and Mike Laschen added assists.

Scoring for the Braves were Ben Kist, Tyler Johnson and Jeremy Skjod. Aaron Yantzer, Jesse Doll and Jesse Horner tallied assists.

Kyle Leftwich made 15 saves for Bismarck, while Mandan's Toby Kienzle stopped 25 shots.

20 years ago (1989): NAPOLEON - Tappen and Braddock notched victories in the opening round of the Napoleon Boys Basketball Invitational.

Tappen cruised past Hazelton-Moffit 63-51, while Braddock topped Napoleon 83-56.

Jason Schmidt had a game-high 26 points and Jamie Pfaff had 16 for the Comets.

H-M was paced by Chris Berger with 17 points and Shane Fellows with 12.

Scott Moch led with 22 points and Craig Svalen and Dean Baumgartner each had 17 for Braddock. Leon Leier scored 13 points for the Bobcats.

Darin Willardson scored 17 points for the Imperials, while Tom Neigum had 12.

50 years ago (1959): STEELE - The Steele Postals came from behind and then staved off a late rally to down Kavaney's Bar of the Bismarck City League 60-57 in an independent game.

Walter Johnson had 19 points and Larry Peters 17 for Steele.

Lyle Haakenson led Kavaney's with 15 points.
