There is no deal so far between the Mandan School District and the owners of the Kuller house.An offer by the district was rejected, and a proposal to get an appraisal of the property was rejected Monday night. The house is across the street from Mandan High School.
A Realtor representing the Kuller family contacted the district about the possibility of the district purchasing the propery. The district would offer $90,000, which is less than the family had hoped the house would fetch. The Kuller family's asking price is $139,000. It is not yet offered by multiple listing service.
Superintendent Wilfred Volesky asked the board to consider paying for an appraisal of the property. The hope was that both the district and the Kuller family would get an appraisal of the property to see how the district's offer and the Kuller's asking price compare to an appraised value.
Ultimately, the board did not want to pay for an appraisal when it may not be willing to pay more than $90,000.
"To more, it is not worth anywhere near $139,000," Superintendent Wilfred Voelsky said.
The district would have additional expenses beyond the purchase price of the property. The primary interest in the property is the land and not the house. It would cost money to demolish or move the house.
In other board news, the board might televise meetings in the Mandan City Commission's meeting room. The room was recently fitted to record and televise meetings. The board is interested but needs to find out more about scheduling and broadcasting of the meetings.
