Ten applicants vying for two spots on the State Board of Higher Education will be reviewed by the board's nominating committee on Jan. 13.

The committee, chaired by Superintendent of Public Instruction Wayne Sanstead, will forward the names of three applicants for each of the two seats that will be vacated July 1 to the governor. The names were released Monday.

Among the applicants is Richard Smith, who serves as the board's current president. Board member Pam Kostelecky's term also is expiring next year and she is not eligible for another term.

Other applicants include Wallace Goulet, Bismarck; Tex Hall, Mandaree; Robert Harms, Bismarck; Heather Hertz, Mott; Robert Lamp, Fargo; Claus Lembke, Bismarck; Duane Pool, Bismarck; Susan Risher, Fargo; and Robert Sanke, Minot.

The higher education board is made up of seven members who serve four-year terms, one student member and a non-voting faculty adviser.

The deadline to apply for the board was Wednesday.
