Business workshop scheduled
SCORE is holding a "Starting a Business, a Plan for Success" workshop from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 201 in the new Bank of North Dakota building, 1200 Memorial Highway in Bismarck.
Local business professionals share their knowledge and expertise at the workshop. Featured topics include "The Business Plan" being offered by Duane Sorby, SCORE volunteer. John Schell from Brady Martz PC will explain basic "Business Record Keeping and Accounting," and Randy Gust from Northland Financial will offer information on "Financing for Small Business." Other topics such as marketing and advertising, home-based business, business insurance and tips on prospering during an economic downturn will be available.
SCORE is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to helping the small business community through no-fee mentoring and business counseling. They work in partnership with the Small Business Administration to promote the growth and success of small business owners across North Dakota. These resource partners are holding similar business workshops on the third Wednesday of each month from Nov. 19, 2007 through March 18, 2008.
Call the SCORE office at 328-5861 for information and to register. Pre-registration is requested, and there is a nominal charge for the materials.
North Dakota's OMB is awarded
The certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for fiscal year 2007 was awarded to the North Dakota Office of Management and Budget by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report. The award is judged by an impartial panel to meet the standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure"to clearly communicate its financial story.
Verizon adds new cell site
Verizon Wireless activated a new cell site in Hazelton to improve coverage along the U.S. Highway 83 as far as five miles north and as far as four miles south of town. Coverage also is improved along N.D. Highway 34 for more than four miles east of town and as far west as N.D. Highway 1804.
The cell site should enable more customers to use their wireless phones.
