Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says seven companies have settled with the state for making prerecorded telemarketing calls.

The North Dakota Do-Not-Call law says callers cannot use "robo-call" machines unless a live operator first obtains the subscriber's consent before a prerecorded message is delivered.

Stenehjem says the companies are based in California, Kansas, Ohio and Florida. The settlements ranged from $1,000 to $5,000.
