It was 30 years ago that Theodore Roosevelt National Park was given a new name and status as a national park.

On that same date, 42 percent of the park was designated as the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness. Prior to November 1978, it was known as Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park.

The park will be celebrating these events with hot beverages and snacks from10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the South Unit Visitor Center.

At 1 p.m., Valerie Naylor, park superintendent, will host a reception and informal discussion about the park and wilderness area.
