Clumsy thief gets away with beer

A man in a ski mask bungled a beer theft at a Bismarck convenience store but still made it out with an 18-pack.

Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler said a man in a dark ski mask, blue flannel coat and camouflage hat entered Loaf N' Jug, 2835 N. Washington St., and started to walk out with an 18-pack of Miller Lite.

The clerk hit the panic alarm, which does not sound in the store, to alert police at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday. Around the same time, the carton containing the beer broke, scattering beer in the store, Ziegler said.

He said the man went back to the beer display, grabbed another 18-pack and fled.

The beer was valued at $15.11, Ziegler said. He said there was surveillance video of the incident, but the man's face is covered the whole time by the ski mask.

" While I certainly see the humor in this bungling thief's ways, it is still a crime and could have easliy gone horribly wrong. Just this week in AZ the same thing happened, unfortunately the thief chose to shoot and kill the clerk on his way out with his two 30 packs. On another note my nephew works at one of these stores and was held up. Not so humorous for him and his family that loves him. Sorry to be a kill joy. "
