Trivia answer

From 1D: The Chicago Cubs Hank Borowy started Game 7 of the 1945 World Series against the Detroit Tigers. He was removed after giving up hits to the first three batters.

Playback

10 years ago (1998):DICKINSON - What a swerve! With the University of Mary clinging to a 24-21 lead in overtime, Dickinson State was facing a third-and-three on the 18-yard line. All eyes were on Blue Hawk tailback Malachi Nelson.

Dickinson State coach Hank "Three yards and grind them into a cloud of dust" Biesiot, had something else in mind. He called for a play-action pass, and U-Mary cornerback Brandon Olesen bit on the fake. Hard.

That left DSU wide receiver Brian Mills wide, wide open. Quarterback Troy Gleave found him, completing the Blue Hawks' improbable 27-24 comeback victory.

Nelson ran for two scores, including a 23-yard jaunt, while Gleave hit Mills from 10 yards out in the fourth.

20 years ago (1988): When Bismarck meets Mandan in girls basketball, a 5-foot-8 guard like LeAnn Moldenhauer isn't going to be the biggest player on the floor. Moldenhauer was certainly the most visible down the stretch as Mandan edged BHS 65-62 in a hard-fought triple overtime battle for first place in the WDA.

It was Moldenhauer's two steals in the final minute of the third overtime that finally sewed up Mandan's win over the persistent Demons.

Jeannette Fox and Melissa Ulmer each scored 14 points to lead the Braves. Becky Schweigert scored a game-high 23 for Bismarck.

50 years ago (1958): RUGBY - The Mandan Braves, with Bill Ellison and Bill Bragg doing the bulk of the scoring, swamped Rugby's Panthers 39-0.

Ellison scored three touchdowns, on two 20-yard runs and a 5-yard plunge. Bragg got two touchdowns, picking up a fumble and racing 30 yards and taking a 20-yard pass from Jake Martin.
