A Bismarck man faces 10 charges after police found keys and a business identification tag while placing him in jail for detoxification.

David Cox, 22, was charged Wednesday with two counts of Class Cfelony burglary, three counts of Class B misdemeanor theft of property, one count of Class C felony criminal mischief and four counts of Class C felony unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

South Central District Judge Donald Jorgensen set bond for Cox at $10,000 cash and prohibited him from having contact with Maverick Enterprises, KFC or DoMor Excavating Inc.

Bismarck Police Lt. Randy Ziegler said officers were informed on Tuesday afternoon that Cox was a suspect in a domestic assault. When they located him, they determined he should be placed in detoxification for intoxication and found two sets of keys and a DoMor IDtag.

Police also learned someone had broken into Maverick Enterprises, 421 S. Third St., late Monday or early Tuesday by breaking a glass window with a brick cinder block, Ziegler said. Once inside, the person had entered a 1984 Ford Bronco and a 1972 Ford Thunderbird. The Thunderbird would not start, but the Bronco had been started and run into a door, Ziegler said. It appeared to have stalled at that point.

Officers also learned someone had entered a track hoe loader belonging to DoMor Inc., which had been parked on the 500 block of South Third Street early Tuesday morning, Ziegler said. He said the vehicle was scratched and the ignition was wrecked.

Police also took a report early Tuesday morning at KFC, 409 S. Third St., about a break in. Someone had broken a small window on a service door, reached through the window and unlocked the door, Ziegler said. He said money was stolen from inside the business, and several cases of chicken were ruined by opening.

Detectives determined the keys found in Cox's possession were taken from the vehicles inside Maverick Enterprises, and he was arrested in the other incidents after questioning, Ziegler said.

Burleigh County Assistant State's Attorney Lloyd Suhr said Cox has a previous domestic assault conviction from earlier this year in North Dakota, and he has domestic assault and theft convictions out of Nevada, Utah and Nebraska.
