U.S. is in danger from Russia

The Olympics in China distracted us while a dire situation was occurring in Europe. Russia invading Georgia may only be the beginning. According to news reports, Poland, Ukraine and the Czech Republic may all be next.

Russia has not changed its goal. The majority of the people are peaceful, but the people in control of the government still want to control the world. They are just using a different strategy. We must face the reality that our country is in grave danger.

Russia needs to be consecrated religiously as advised during World War I, but still is not done. The pope, with the bishops, must consecrate Russia specifically to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as was requested by Our Lady of Fatima.

The only way to have real peace is prayer, sacrifice and moral living. The people of the United States, with our freedom of religion, can do much to have this accomplished.

" You could not be further from the truth. Everyone needs a reality check. Russia responded to an illegal military action started by Georgia backed by NATO/United States. This is a strategic responce by NATO/United States for control over the EurAsia pipeline that is running through South Otessia. It is a precursure to a Russian attack on Poland due to the new "missile agreement" and NATO wants to know how Russia can resopond. I guess we all found out. Nobody is in the "right". But Russia was right to respond. "

" So...Russia would behave if it only agreed to follow the third vision at Fatima?!?!? I have heard foreign policy described in many contexts, but now we want to throw in the fantasies of the alleged "Lady of Fatima?" My God, we have really reached the bottom of the intellectual well if this is what the general population (or this letter-writer at least) is demanding. What other religious fantasies could we use as justification of national behavior? Lourdes? Sitting in a lotus position along the Ganges? Consulting a tortilla with the image of the Holy Virgin on it in Mexico? How about praying in Jerusalem for the Second Coming of Christ...oh wait, American religious conservatives already do that... "

I Agree with part of your original comment that the U.S. should not worry to much about Russia now. But definatly should keep an eye on these bullies, that are making a mokery of us. He who laughs last laughs best and I believe the U.S. will laugh last.
As far as your outlandish comments about how the U.S. commits crimes all around the world where do you get your info from Holywood? Mabey you forgot who was in controll of Iraq before we invaded, or the Towers? Mabey you should read some before and after stories about how much we helped the Iraqi people. Your comments just spit in the face of every soldier that was and still is there.
And when you say the "war on terror" let me ask you Have we been attacked since the Patriot Act? "

" Engaging in 21st century wars based on 20th century ideologies is going to get us all killed. Russia buys our treasuries, they have a stock market just as corrupt as ours, an unquestioning press that parrots their leaders talking points, and when they feel it is in their best self interest they will invade another country. I'm sure there are other similarities but its too depressing to think about. "

" Point to ponder is very correct about what is going on over there. Another thing to remember is that Russia used to control this area which provided access to the oil ports, now they no longer have this! Again, this about oil which is vital to our economy and not their's. I believe they won't leave those two provinces in order to secure there own interests and to show the Georgians of the consequences of joining the European Union or NATO. This will be a very important topic for whoever is president in the near future. "

" First, Pavel is right, the Georgians started this by attacking Ossetia and engaging in ethnic cleansing. Russia responded (in the usual brutal Russian way) much the same way that NATO and the US responded in Kosovo. Second, restarting the cold war isn't going to anyone any good. Third, attacking Russia is suicide. Remember they have nuclear weapons pointed at Minot. That means everyone dies in North Dakota. "

BabyT, can you tally up the number of religious war victims vs. the wholesale slaughter of citizens by communist regimes with atheism as one of their core philosophies? Thanks. One death because of religious disagreement is too much, but if you want to play this by the numbers of "believers' atrocities versus atheists' atrocities" you will lose. It's a strawman. "

It will come back to haunt us. We should be pumping the oil in Iraq to fund a larger military to support wars on several fronts if it is needed. We also could use the Iraqi oil to lower our oil prices here too. I am really sick of hearing about how some of the Iraqis are not thankful that we gave them freedom. They make me sick. "

" I don't trust Russia either but they have nothing to gain by more tensions with the West; they have too much money invested. Protraying Putin and Medvedev as evil like Stalin was is not helping. We're also putting too much trust in this Georgian president; for the past 5 years he's sent troops into these areas and killed thousands. Imagine if the U.S. broke up and North Dakota and South Dakota were separate countries. Let's say Campbell county wanted to secede and join North Dakota. But instead of letting them go the Pierre regime launched small military strikes into Emmons County for years; in response the Bismarck government sends a big force towards Pollock and Herreid to stop it and create a buffer zone. I don't mean this as a joke -- this scenario makes about as much sense as what's going on over there now. It's basically a civil war and we need to stay out of it. "

" The only way to have real peace is 'religion'??? The bloodiest wars this planet has seen have all been the direct result of religion. Usually it is one of two reasons: Our religion doesn't agree with their religion, or our religion is the only correct one and we need to convert the heathens. Russia is just shaking its big noisy stick at some former Soviet colonies. The US has a hard time understanding the situation, but lets say for example Texas decided to declare independence. At the time, lets also say our government was relatively powerless, we are fighting another war somewhere else. Well, lets also say we end that other war, and now bring the troops home to make sure Texas joins the union again. Sounds plausible? So what is bad about Russia doing the exact same thing? "

The other side of the coin wrote on Aug 26, 2008 7:32 AM:

" Yes, Russian leadership under Vladimir Putin is once again posing a threat to the stability of the region. Putin is an old communist who dreams of reinstating the power of the Old Russian bear and that bear has teeth that are weapons of mass destruction. We need to tread carefully. Our nations military is stretched thin because of Iraq and there is little we can do right now but grumble. Bush looked into Putins soul, upon their first meeting, and found or thought he had found someone he could do business with. As far as the last two paragraphs of this letter to the editor, I dont have the foggiest idea what Frances is talking about. In recent travel to Russia I found the common person to be very religious. Churchs were being opened and filled. With the serious problems our nation now faces we had better be careful about boasting about our alleged moral superiority. Prayer and moral living will not bring world peace, speaking softly and intelligently while carrying a big stick will. "

Adam wrote on Aug 26, 2008 7:19 AM:

" I disagree with the author of the letter. The only way to have real peace is to establish global laissez-faire capitalism and respect the founding principles that built the United States. Consecrating Russia to Mary's cardiovascular system unfortunately won't make them stand down; the nations of the West need to stand united against Russia, make no moral or practical concessions, and flex its military strength. "

The real danger we face is our compliant citizenry that let our government commit crimes around the world in our name, such as Bush's illegal, immoral, unjustified, and unconstitutional invasion and occupation of Iraq. We allow our elected politicians to pass tyrannical legislation such as the USA Patriot Act that strips away our privacy and rights in the guise of prosecuting Bush's phony "war on terror." Wake up, people! "
