Award recognizes group's work

The North Dakota Governor's Work Group recently received a national award from U.S. Forest Service Chief Gail Kimbell, for streamlining and expediting oil and gas permitting activities on the Little Missouri National Grasslands in western North Dakota.

The members include Robert Harms, partner of the Harms Group; Ron Ness, executive director of the N.D. Petroleum Council; Lynn Helms, director of the state Department of Mineral Resources; John Morrison, industry counsel, Fleck, Mather & Strutz; Gary Johnson, Amerada Hess Corp.; Lonny Bagley, area manager, Bureau of Land Management; Mark Goeden, staff officer, U.S. Forest Service; Larry Melvin, minerals staff specialist, U.S. Forest Service; and Dave Pieper, Dakota Prairie Grasslands supervisor, U.S. Forest Service.

Wind farm is up and running

ACCIONA Energy has put into operation its Tatanka Wind Farm, located in Dickey and McIntosh counties in North Dakota and McPherson County in South Dakota.

It is capable of generating enough energy to power more than 60,000 U.S. homes. The facility went online July 25.

Tatanka Wind Farm is the first installation of ACCIONA's 1.5-megawatt turbines in the United States. Construction of the $381 million project began in April 2007.

There are 59 turbines located in South Dakota and 61 turbines in North Dakota. The electricity generated is sold into the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, which delivers electric power to a large region of the upper midwestern United States and Canada.

Otter Tail enters wind project

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - Otter Tail Power Co. has entered into an agreement with M-Power, LLC, to purchase a portion of its Luverne Wind Farm under development in east central North Dakota.

Otter Tail's portion of the construction-ready site can support wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 49.5 megawatts.

M-Power is requesting site and transmission route approval for the full 157.5-megawatt project from the North Dakota Public Service Commission. M-Power and Otter Tail expect to close the purchase later in 2008, subject to PSC approval and other standard conditions.

M-Power is based in Finley.

Ulteig elects board members

Ulteig has elected Craig Anderson, Steve Synhorst and Tom Welle to two-year terms on its board of directors.

Anderson, a senior vice president at Ulteig, leads the company's building services practice and has been with Ulteig for three years.

Synhorst is the leader of the aviation division and a senior vice president who has been with Ulteig for nearly 20 years.

Welle has been with the company for 17 years, is a senior vice president and leads Ulteig's water/wastewater division.

Ag secretary to speak at dedication

Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer will be keynote speaker at the dedication of the Entrepreneurial Center in Fort Yates, set for 10 a.m. Aug. 27.

The center is a collaborative effort between the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and Sitting Bull College. The building is located on the new campus of Sitting Bull College along Highway 24 just west of Fort Yates.

One component of the building is a business incubator designed to provide affordable business space, with technical assistance and small business financing resources located in the same building. The facility also has a computer lab.

Identification event scheduled

Securian Financial Advisors of N.D. Inc. will hold a free SecureChild Photo ID event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northland Financial, 1313 Skyline Blvd., Bismarck.

Parents will be provided personal safety kits for their children.

Bankers group selects officers

The North Dakota Bankers Association has elected new officers and board members.

Mark DuBord, president for American Federal Bank, Fargo-Moorhead, succeeds Eric Hardmeyer, president of the Bank of North Dakota, as chairman of the NDBA's board of directors.

Tim Hennessy, Bismarck, regional president for U.S. Bank in western North Dakota, became chairman-elect of the NDBA board.

Brent Zavalney, Munich, president for Choice Financial Group in Langdon, was elected board treasurer.

Steve McLaen, Forman, president of Sargent County Bank of Forman and Stock Growers Bank of Napoleon, and Thomas Stennes, Fargo, president of Harwood State Bank, have been appointed to four-year terms on the board,

Pat Artz, president of State Bank of Bottineau; Ronald Braseth, president of Goose River Bank; and Vaune Cripe, senior vice president of American Bank Center, Dickinson, have been elected to four-year board terms.

Veterinary organization elects

Two Bismarck-Mandan residents were recently elected officers in the North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association.

Veterinarians Jesse Vollmer, with the State Board of Animal Health, Bismarck, and Del Rae Martin, Heart River Animal Hospital, Mandan, became first vice president and second vice president, respectively.

Other members of the executive board of directors are Derine Winning, Fargo, president; Frank Walker, New Rockford, secretary-treasurer; Debra Trnovec, Jamestown, past president; and Vince Stenson, Williston, and Charlie Stoltenow and Neil Dyer, both of Fargo, directors.

Medcenter One receives designation

Medcenter One was recently named one of the 100 Top Hospitals Performance Improvement Leaders for the second consecutive year.

The annual report, compiled by Thomson Reuters, a healthcare quality improvement company, recognizes hospitals that achieve the fastest, most consistent improvement in the nation over a five-year period. The report analyzes improvement of clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, financial stability and growth.
