Change?Lately, I've been noticing a turn in the Obama campaign that has not been reported all that much in the news. I noticed his position on change has turned into a position of the same thing, nation-building, maintaining the course, no troop withdrawal, and being a typical arrogant D.C. politician.
Obama has made countless statements of change from the Bush administration, but his actions recently are speaking louder than his words. First, he wants to nation-build in Afghanistan, which sounds to me like President Bush's plan for Iraq that Obama has ridiculed countless times. Rather than his promise of change, he plans to keep our troops in Iraq or ship them off to the nation-building he plans in Afghanistan. It's a little ironic that the change Obama promised has turned out to be like his new stance on the surge, leaning more towards McCain's policy.
Though he claims to be different than other politicians, since he's spent so little time in Washington, we can see from his inability to admit he was wrong when he said the surge would fail, he is just like the rest of the politicians. He will only acknowledge accomplishments and never apologize or take the blame for flawed beliefs and admit that his opposition was correct in their decisions.
Is this what we want as our commander in chief - a candidate who was wrong about an important wartime decision with the surge, who is not humble enough to admit failure, who wants to continue if not increase our presence in the Middle East, a candidate whose only change to our country will be higher taxes?
I know I'm ready for a change, but I don't see it happening, even from Obama's campaign filled with empty promises of hope and change.

You can debate what's fair or not fair in terms of taxes all day long. But at the end of the day there can't be much dispute that Obama is proposing significant tax hikes on Americans.
Sure, there are some folks at the lower end of the income tax brackets who will see their income taxes go down. Sure. That's great. I am all in favor of people's taxes going down. For sure.
But at the higher range of the tax brackets people are going to see their taxes go up significantly.
This will hurt the economy. These folks will have less to invest, less to spend, consumer spending will decline, and I believe our economy will suffer as a result.
But perhaps the most startling of Obama's plans involves significantly ratcheting up the tax on employers--the FICA tax. Right now employers pay 6.2% on all wages up to $102,000. Obama proposes repealing this cap. This will cause tax costs to increase significantly. If labor costs more, employers won't be able to afford as much of it and will fire people.
Sure, Obama, if elected, will do some good things. No doubt. Just as McCain, if elected, will do some good things. Both will probably do some things we all disagree with as well.
But I am voting with my pocketbook and based on who I believe will hurt the economy least.
I believe that is McCain. "

It accomplishes nothing beyond serving to create greater polarity between us all. Hey, I enjoy a spirited debate as much as anyone and I love the fact that I live in a country that allows me to express my views openly. That's something we should all appreciate.
Why don't we all pause for a moment and take a slow, deep breath. If you look at our domestic politics from a global perspective, the political scope runs far to the extreme of the vast majority of the American people, where over 90 percent of us are just a few degrees either right or left of center. We have things pretty good here and we all know it. But it's election season so the hyperbole is going to heat up just like it always does. Democrats aren't Communists/Socialists and Republicans arent Nazis/Fascists. We all want the best for our kids & our national security. We just disagree on how best to get there. That's why we have elections. See you at the polls. "

Genesis Chapter 2 verse 7: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
The way I interpret this passage, the bible defines life as beginning when a person takes their first breath, not at the moment of conception. Which makes me wonder...How do you feel about Capital punishment? I think it's safe to say that Jesus might have a problem with giving the government the right to take a human life(i.e. living soul). It seems to me that Obamma has the duty to change his views concerning this war and and work closly with the generals in charge especially where troop-levels are concerned. I see nothing wrong with him admitting that he may have been wrong with his initial troop withdrawl plan. If President Bush would have been more flexible in his thinking, this war may have been over by now.

If Bush had the slightest sense of irony, he might have paused to ask himself, "Wait a minute. How did I get into Yale?" It wasn't because of any academic achievement: his high school record was ordinary. It wasn't because of his life experience--prosperous family, fancy prep school--which was all too familiar at Yale. It wasn't his SAT scores.
They may not have had an explicit point system at Yale in 1964, but Bush clearly got in because of affirmative action. Affirmative action for the son and grandson of alumni. Affirmative action for a member of a politically influential family. Affirmative action for a boy from a fancy prep school. These forms of affirmative action still go on.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Harvard accepts 40% of applicants who are children of alumni but only 11% of applicants generally. And this kind of affirmative action makes the student body less diverse, not more so. George W. Bush, in fact, may be the most spectacular affirmative-action success story of all time. Until 1994, when he was 48 years old and got elected Governor of Texas, his life was almost empty of accomplishments.
Yet bloodlines and connections had put him into Andover, Yale and Harvard Business School, and even finally provided him with a fortune after years of business disappointments. Intelligence, hard work and the other qualities associated with the concept of merit had almost nothing to do with Bush's life and success up to that point.
And yet seven years later he was President of the U.S. clearly an indirect result of affirmative action. "

So as log as you are slinging mud at Obama for this, it might interest you to know that some other recent candidates have also modified their campaign planes with logos and campaign markings. The furor started last week when McClellan appeared on MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews." Asked if the White House distributed "talking points" to friendly Fox journalists such as O'Reilly, McClellan said sure. I wouldnt say that McClellan recanted his statement. What he did was to say that he allowed Matthews to phrase a question incorrectly and he didnt correct it when he answered. And yes like a fair minded person he apologized to OReilly for this oversight.
MATTHEWS: Did people say call Sean, call Bill, call whoever? Did you do that as a regular thing?
McCLELLAN: Certainly. Certainly. It wasnt necessarily something I was doing, but it was something that we at the White House, yes, were doing.
Then O'Reilly after calling McClellan a "liar" and an "idiot" on his radio show Monday, promised to have some fun with the former White House Press Secretary on his TV show that night, insisting that he, the great ratings king of the Fox News network, did not need talking points from the Bush White House.
OREILLY: Matthews played you. ... He played you! You should be mad at him!
McCLELLAN: So you dont owe me an apology for calling me a liar?
OREILLY: You are a liar! You said I received talking points and I didnt!
McCLELLAN: No I didnt! I was not confirming that. Im telling you right now
OREILLY: Oh youre parsing the damn thing! Come on, be honest! ... He baited you! He baited you! ... Youre crazy! Youre partners with [NBC] in selling your book!
McClellan, who claims in his book that he was misled by White House officials, conceded that he "messed up" by replying affirmatively to Matthews' question without rebutting the specific names Chris mentioned.
"I was specifically not trying to single anyone out, including you," said McClellan. "There were people, not you, but there were people." "

Mitchell and others would revisit the allegation several times, each time declaring it to be "false" or without factual basis. Nevertheless, the claim that Obama canceled the Landstuhl visit because he could not bring the media along continued to drive media coverage.
According to the Obama campaign, the Pentagon had informed them that the visit "would be viewed ... as a campaign event," and "Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see

It's easy to get elected from the Senate if you're only running against other senators; the task proves far more difficult if your opposition is a governor or an incumbent national office holder. In the last 30 years, only two sitting senators have received their party's nomination: Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in 2004, and Sen. Robert Dole, R-Kan., in 1996. (Dole left the Senate mid-term to run for president.) Before that, you have to go back to the 1972 bid of Sen. George McGovern, D-S.D.
With six-year terms, senators have long histories of roll-call votes. They often appear to flip-flop on issues, or will vote against a slightly different version of a bill--remember John Kerry's claim about voting for war funding before he voted against it? Other times, a senator will vote for a bill simply because there is an amendment attached that would be favorable to his or her constituents.
This amounts to a field day for opposition research teams: Few things are easier to twist in a 30-second campaign spot than a Senate voting record. There is also one very dark fact about the two senators who have attained the presidency--each has died in his first term as president. Kennedy was assassinated before serving three full years in office. Harding was felled by a heart attack in 1923. "

He was strongly against torture of prisoners (an understandable position in his case). Now he says torture is justifiable. In May, when Pres. Bush likened Obamas willingness to open a dialogue with Iran to Disraelis appeasement of Adolf Hitler before WWII, McCain immediately jumped on and agreed with the comment. Now he supports the administrations "contacts" with Iran. McCain was anti-ethanol. Now hes pro-ethanol. McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.
McCain criticized Jerry Falwell (who said Americans deserved the 9/11 attacks) and Pat Robertson as agents of intolerance in 2002, but has since spoken at the graduation ceremony at Liberty University. He also sought out the endorsements of TV evangelists John Hagee (Who calls the Catholic Church The great prostitute and claims that Hurricane Katrina was sent by God to punish the gays in New Orleans) and Rod Parsley, who advocates a war with Islam. Now he has renounced their support.
Actually these flip-flopping charges are standard Republican tactics. But I recall hearing an old saying, something about people who live in glass houses. "
