Narrative: Dorgan signed a book agreement with St. Martin's Press in August 2007 to write a book that has the working title "In Search of Common Sense." He received a $50,000 signing payment and is scheduled to be paid $35,000 upon the delivery and acceptance of the complete manuscript and $35,000 upon the publisher's initial hard cover publication of the book. Dorgan's book agent receives a 15 percent cut of these payments. He has paid Tony Bender of Ashley, N.D., $20,000 to assist him with research and editing.
