Republican congressional candidate Duane Sand is criticizing Democrat Rep. Earl Pomeroy's $2,500-per-head campaign fundraiser at a Pennsylvania resort this week.

An e-mailed invitation invites contributors to Pomeroy for what it calls "a weekend of championship golf, world-class spas and family entertainment at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort" in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Matt Dabrowski is a spokesman for Sand, who's Pomeroy's election opponent. He says it shows Pomeroy is "out of touch" with North Dakotans.

Pomeroy campaign manager Dianne Mondry says he's always done different events to help raise re-election funds. She says that includes "risking personal embarrassment by swinging a golf club at occasional events like this one."

The event, scheduled through today, was organized by a Washington Democratic campaign consultant, Fraioli and Associates.

" Wouldn't it be nice if Mr. Pomeroy spent some of this money here in our own state? We need the tourism, we need the income, we need the sales tax - so why oh why is he doing this somewhere else? We need new blood in Washington "
