10 years ago (1998):Amanda Dietrich won two state championships at the State Track Meet in Grand Forks and then departed for a trip to Europe. But the honors didn't stop coming.
Dietrich was named the Mandan Athletic and Recreation (MAR)Club's outstanding female senior athlete at Mandan High School.
Also honored at the MAR Club's annual awards banquet was Joe Schneider, the outstanding male athlete at MHS. Schneider is a swimming, football and baseball standout.
20 years ago (1988): Rick Kuhn played one more hole than his teammates. It was supposed to be a playoff. Kuhn used it merely as a victory lap.
Kuhn, who had tied for medalist honors with Fargo Shanley's Matt Mayer, lost the playoff. It just didn't matter. As he walked back to the Edgewood Golf Course clubhouse, Kuhn made it clear that the big fish was in Bismarck's boat.
The Demons are the North Dakota Class A golf champions.
50 years ago (1958): The Bismarck American Legion Junior baseball team got back onto the winning side of the ledger, stopping the Mott Juniors 5-3.
Al Lick started for the locals and earned the win, although he was relieved by Steve Woodcox in the fifth. Nick Kronbauer went all the way for Mott and suffered the loss.
