A pair of puppies was found at a Bismarck apartment where a man on probation recently had been evicted, police say.

The puppies, black and white and of mixed breeding, were found in the apartment in southwest Bismarck on Friday, Lt. Randy Ziegler said.

He said a 23-year-old Bismarck man had adopted the puppies from the police impound several weeks ago. The man, who is on probation, was evicted from his apartment on March 10, Ziegler said.

The puppies did not have food or water when they were found, Ziegler said.

He said the case is being referred to the city attorney for possible charges. Police hope to find the man, whose name has not been released, through his probation officer.

" Shouldn't be any question of charges? Leaving puppies alone is no different than leaving a baby alone. Someone leaves a baby alone there are charges, this is no different. "
