10 years ago (1998):Nick Jacobson of Fargo Shanley and Rusty Lewis of Devils Lake were opponents on the court, but they are teammates on the all-tournament team, selected by media and tournament officials.

Valley City's Jeff Boschee also made the team along with Devils Lake's Ryan Johnson and Josh Johnson; Bismarck's Chuck Archambault; Century's Karl Pope; Shanley's Dan Dahl and Minot's Kent Bloms.

20 years ago (1988): Brian Voss, a Bismarck High School graduate now living in Tacoma, Wash., had quite a weekend on the Professional Bowling Tour.

Voss won the Toledo Trust National PBAChampionship, which was worth $51,000. It was his fifth title on the PBATour and pushed his earnings over $500,000 mark in tournaments.

The PBAChampionship is one of the tour's Triple Crown events and Voss hopes to become one of the few to win all three. John Petragila and Billy Hartwick are the only two PBA members to have won all three, the others being the Firestone and U.S. Open.

Voss, 29, added another $15,000 last week when he defeated Earl Anthony before falling to Walter Ray Williams in the next round of a televised "Make That Spare" competition. Voss converted the 4-5 split to beat Anthony.

Voss led the PBA in points in 1987. Based on tour average and number of tournaments in which he cashed in, Voss pocketed an extra $50,000. This season he has cashed in 10 of 12 stops.

50 years ago (1958): The defending state Class B champion Hettinger Shooting Stars and Beach will clash to decide the championship of Region 4.

The Shooting Stars rolled to their 53rd straight victory in romping over the Fort Yates Warriors 79-50, but the Beach Bucs made an even more impressive victory by trimming Linton 74-55.

Hettinger's lanky pivotman John Butterfield showed his basketbal wizardry in threading the net for a sparkling 33 points. Rod Reinke and Garry Melling added 14 and 13 respectively.

Wilmer Sitting Dog was the only Warrior to hit double figures with 11 points.

Gary Thompson took scoring honors for the evening with 25 points for Beach, followed closely behind by Bob DeTenancour with 22. Jimmy Thompson and Al Hardy each added 10 for the Bucs.

Tom Henn had 24 for Linton and teammate Larry Mischel scored 12 points.
