Unselfish acts of individuals, in a times of crisis or need, can change the course of events for the better. And a life well lived can be an example for others, especially the young and those searching for answers. The Tribune Awards over the years have gone to a growing list of people from our community who have risen to act well in a crisis or have, through their efforts, served their community by example and deed.

Today, the 2007 Tribune Awards go to four individuals or groups who represent the best of us all.

Short essays about each can be found on this page. They were nominated by Tribune readers and reporters. The criteria for nominations ask for people who volunteer, are heroic or are inspirational. Among the 2007 award winners are those who fit one of these criteria.

The Tribune Awards are a way for the community to acknowledge these people. To say, "Thank you."

Others nominated include Reuben Buchholz, of Dickinson, a volunteer with Home on the Range; Deb Bloom, a volunteer at the Abused Adult Resource Center, Bismarck; Curtis Freeman and three lifeguards at the Dickinson swimming pool who saved the life of a 5-year-old; Herbert Wilson, community activist, Bismarck; Don Walz, volunteer, Bismarck; David Allard, Bismarck, who helped a woman with a severe allergic reaction; and We In Black, a peace group, Bismarck.
