Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says nine contractors have agreed to pay a total of $30,500 in fines in an investigation of roofing workers in Fargo.

Stenehjem says the investigation last month found unlicensed contractors or subcontractors repairing roofs on Fargo homes after a September hail storm. He says 31 illegal immigrants were taken into custody.

Stenehjem says most of the violations involved unlicensed subcontractors. He says the companies cooperated in the investigation and are working to make sure they follow the law.
