Police are looking into four unrelated child abuse reports that came in on Tuesday, including a report of a Bismarck woman and her newborn daughter testing positive for amphetamines.Bismarck Police Sgt. Dwight Offerman said detectives will investigate how the 24-year-old woman and her baby, born on Monday, came to test positive for amphetamines.
The woman said she accidentally took her brother's ADHD medication about a week prior to the birth of her baby and on the day she gave birth, Offerman said. He said she also said she has been taking methadone, a medication used for the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence.
The case also will be sent to Burleigh County Social Services and the Burleigh County state's attorney's office.
Three other child abuse cases also were reported Tuesday:
n At 10:49 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 300 block of West Arbor Avenue for a loud party call, Offerman said. He said a 34-year-old Bismarck woman was intoxicated and unable to communicate inside the home, and a 36-year-old man was intoxicated in a bedroom of the home. The woman's 1 1/2-year-old daughter was inside the home, and Burleigh County Social Services took custody of the child, Offerman said.
The woman, who lives at the home, and the man, who has a different address, were taken to the Burleigh County Detention Center to be placed in detoxification cells, Offerman said. He said the woman was not arrested for child abuse and neglect, and social services will investigate the matter.
-- At 4:26 p.m., a Bismarck woman brought her 1-year-old daughter to the police department for documentation of injuries. The girl's grandmother had noticed while bathing the child that she had at least five bite marks on her body, Offerman said. He said the bite marks appear to be of a size that would indicate they were from another child.
The mother said she believes her daughter sustained the injuries while in the care of a daycare provider, Offerman said.
Burleigh County Social Services and a Bismarck police will investigate the report.
-- AWilton woman reported that her 5-year-old son expressed fear of a former baby sitter when he saw the man on two occasions while visiting his father at the Bismarck Transition Center and Missouri River Correctional Center, Offerman said.
He said the boy told his mother the man had fondled him about two years ago.
The mother said the man babysat the boy when they lived in Bismarck about two years ago, when the boy was 3, Offerman said.
He said police will investigate the allegations, though an investigation into a case that old will be difficult because it likely will be based solely on interviews.
