After living here for nearly a year, I've come to learn that there is rarely a dull week in business, retail and otherwise, for Bismarck-Mandan.Last week was no exception.
The ever-changing landscape inside Gateway Mall recently added a new eatery to its food court. Austin's, a Tex-Mex style burger, pizza and barbecue joint, opened near the Subway. They're still remodeling, said Cheryl Hansen, on-site property manager of the mall, but they are definitely open.
As Ireported in last week's column, a new day spa is going in the retail center just east of Pinehurst Square Shopping Centre. The spa, LaBelle Day Spa, is owned by Jessica Petrick, a former member of National Guard company 957. Petrick said she got out of the Guard about a year ago, and decided to open up the business with the help of her sister, Alicia Melby, who is a stylist.
"I've always been interested in the industry,"Petrick said.
The 2050-square-foot spa will open officially on Monday with all spa-related services, including microdermabrasion, facials, waxing, pedicures, massage and hair services.
They have eight employees. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Sundays will be reserved for spa parties.
Also moving into Pinehurst, busy retail community that it is, will be Naturalizer Shoes, which has been in Kirkwood Mall for the past seven years.
Bob Lundin, who owns the store with his wife, Connie Lundin, said the couple's lease is up in the mall Aug. 1.
The 2,000-square-foot space next to David's Bridal became available after a deal fell through, so the Naturalizer store will be able to move in and open Aug. 1. Lundin expects the transition to be smooth, with the store at Kirkwood closing on July 31.
They hired one other full-time worker, bringing total staff up to eight, Lundin said. Although they have not secured definite store hours, Lundin expects store hours to be similar to current hours:10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Other moves:Terry Barnes Auto Glass is moving to 1238 Airport Road on Monday, near where they first opened 29 years ago; Cycle Hutt is moving to a bigger building at 3700 Memorial Highway from its current location at 1522 E. Main Ave; and Treasures of the Sea, currently in downtown Bismarck, will open at its new location on either Tuesday or Thursday at 609 Memorial Highway, next to Hawk's Pit Stop.
